Yes chef! The hit FX series is officially back with a second season, and if you haven’t watched the first season of The Bear however, this is your sign. The show follows Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto (Jeremy Allen White), a esteemed chef from the world of fine dining who trades in his Michelin stars for an ugly, Italian sandwich shop that formerly managed by his late brother. As Carmy tries to rally the team to her new gig, she learns there are many lessons to be learned along the way, from navigating heartbreak to perfecting an Italian steak. The Bear also stars Come on Edebiri and Ebon Moss-Bachrach.
What we think: “Season 2 of The Bear be sure to prove that things are different this time. Long gone are the days of scrambling to prepare before The Beef opens. Long gone are the days of everyone shouting ‘corner’ while carrying hot pots. However, The Bear made the bold decision to leave the kitchen, focusing on its characters trying to better themselves rather than the restaurant itself – and it saved the show. Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) finally has his own show. The latest The Marvel series is on Disney+ is the Secret Invasion, a spy thriller that follows Fury as he tries to save Earth from an alien race. (You may remember these aliens as the Skrulls from Captain Marvel.) Jackson’s Fury is joined by a star-studded cast that includes Emilia Clarke, Cobie Smulders, Olivia Colman, with Martin Freeman returning as Black Pantherby Everett K. Ross.
What we think: “Marvel’s latest, Nick Fury-centric Secret Invasioncontinues that pattern with its deep ties to espionage thrillers… The first two episodes deliver exciting set pieces, intriguing political espionage, and a healthy dose of double agent paranoia courtesy of a shape-shifting enemy.” — Belen Edwards, Entertainment Reporter

Infinity Pool

Eat-the-rich jokes a staple last yearand by Brandon Cronenberg Infinity Pool no exceptions. The film is set on a sketchy, remote island where all crime is punishable by death – unless you have enough to make a clone of yourself to stand in for your murder. Yup, it is TAME. But the island’s criminal laws aren’t the only thing that makes it scary; There’s also a pool (pun intended) of seriously creepy residents that will make your skin crawl every step of the way. If that hasn’t sold you yet, the film stars Alexander Skarsgård, Cleopatra Coleman, and Mia Goth – the new mother of horror.
What we think: “Horror and science fiction take center stage in Cronenberg’s follow-up to horror His. But among the oozes of blood, urine, semen, and other mysterious oozes, there is a wickedly cruel humor at play. As we watch the merciless downfall of a vain and rich man, we are urged to lack. And who better to lead us on this path of non-stop humor than pearlthe shining star, Mia Goth?” — Kristy Puchko, Film Editor

The Perfect Search

Based on Tia Williams’ novel of the same name, The Perfect Search a delicious one rom-com starring Gabrielle Union and Keith Powers. The film follows Jenna Jones (Union), a fashion editor trying to make a career comeback and start her new era as a girlboss. But Jenna’s plans for advancement are derailed when she accidentally hooks up with none other than her boss’s son, Eric (Powers). Will he risk his career? Or will he just leave the one who will be his true love? Is it a rom-com without that old problem?
What we think: “Union and Powers have strong chemistry, especially in scenes that require more dramatic heavy lifting, like when Eric tells Jenna about his dead father. hers too. But many other aspects of their relationship leave much to be desired.” — BE

You Hurt My Feelings

Source: A24
Why do we all tell little white lies, and why do they seem to hurt more than the big ones? So goes the premise for Comedy by A24 You Hurt My Feelings, which takes us inside the lives of many couples and the lies they tell each other. With an incredible ensemble cast that includes Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Tobias Menzies, Michaela Watkins, David Cross, and Arian Moayed, You Hurt My Feelings Digging deep into relationships, the things we say to keep from hurting each other, and what happens when we decide to be honest.
What we think: “Writer-director Nicole Holofcener examines the little white lies we tell our loved ones, like pretending to want a gift or a piece of their work. You Hurt My Feelings unfolds, it turns out that discovering these little fibs can be more damaging than bigger, more damaging lies. Holofcener uses his trademark honesty and sharp wit to take a scathing look at the little things we hide from each other – and to question why we do it in the first place.” – BE

No Hard Feelings

Dirty jokes it’s back, baby! In this funny flick, Jennifer Lawrence stars as Maddie, a young woman in a financial pinch who stumbles upon a list of gigs she can’t turn down. A rich couple (played by the incredible Matthew Broderick and Laura Benanti) are looking for someone to “date” their 19-year-old son, Percy (Andrew Barth Feldman), before he goes off to college, in exchange for a Buick Regal. Who do you think will take the job? None other than Maddie herself; after all, you can’t be an Uber driver if your only mode of transport is rollerblades.
What we think: “This summer comedy is an old-school raunch-fest with plenty of laughs that might have arrived at the party a round of Beer Pong too late. on the big screen, and this one, well, is and fully compatible, perhaps not revolutionary enough to change the downward trajectory.” — Jason Adams, Freelance Entertainment Writer

I am a Virgo

This surreal yet touching coming-of-age story follows Cootie (Jharrel Jerome), a 13-foot-tall teenager who has had enough of hiding at home. As Cootie ventures into the big world outside her front door, she finds new friends, crushes, and life lessons — as well as a Marvel-esque villain determined to take her down. An absurdist story with as much heart as humor, I am a Virgo is one of the most original releases this year.
What we think: “Like its 13-foot-tall protagonist, Cootie (Jharrel Jerome), I am a Virgo stands out in a TV landscape populated by reboots and popular IPs. It’s one in terms of story, messaging, and visuals, using its absurdity to explore a high fantasy world whose problems mirror our own. Indeed, it is Therefore good and Therefore so confident in its originality that it’s hard to believe it’s the only one [Boots] Riley’s second project.” — BE

And Like That…

The reboot of the lover HBO hit Sex and the City Max returns with a second season that is even more nostalgic than the first. While there’s a lot going on for Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), and Charlotte (Kristin Davis), this new season of And Like That will also finally see the long-awaited return of fan fave Samantha (Kim Cattrall) — sorta.
What we think: “And Like That returns for its second season, and more(opens in new tab) critics(opens in new tab) THERE(opens in new tab) proposed(opens in new tab) that the show more closely replicates what attracted fans to the original show in the first place (a cocktail of sex, fashion, and friendship). Things are definitely not the same, nor will they be – the first season made that clear… However, the show is funnier than ever; the cast also seems to have found their feet, delivering the right emotional notes. There are plenty of sex scenes that range from raunchy to hot, and more candid conversations about race that have nothing to do with educating a middle-aged woman about diversity.” – Meera Navlakha, Culture Correspondent
