Sun Center Brionna Jones will miss the rest of the season after tearing her right Achilles on Tuesday, the team announced. Jones, who was injured in Connecticut’s game against Seattle, underwent surgery on Friday.
“First, I want to thank everyone who came in the last few days. All the love I’ve received has truly been a blessing as I get through this difficult time,” Jones said in a statement. “Although this is not how I thought this season would end for me, I am determined and ready to go into the next phase of recovery and rehab.”

Connecticut drafted Jones out of Maryland in 2017, and the center has become one of the franchise’s staples. Jones is coming off back-to-back All-Star appearances, and is off to his best start this year, averaging 15.9 points and 8.2 rebounds per game, both career-highs, in 13 games played.
Last year, Jones was the WNBA Sixth Player of the Year, because she made the All-Star game while only starting seven games all year. While he won’t forget the season, Jones said he expects to make a full recovery, and he still believes in Day without him.
“I know I have an amazing support system behind me, and I’m going to come back on the other side of this stronger than ever,” she said. “I will definitely miss competing every night with this amazing group of women, but I’m excited to see this team continue to grow and accomplish great things this season.”
