Missouri Quarterback Brady Cook led the Tigers to a big 30-27 upset against No. 15 Kansas State on Saturday.
Based on that sentence, observers might expect the Missouri crowd to absolutely love the starting quarterback. However, the crowd really booed Cook during the team’s introduction.
It’s not like Cook hasn’t played well in the Tigers’ first two games of the season, recording 376 total passing yards and three touchdown passes with no interceptions in wins over South Dakota and Middle Tennessee. But fans are likely drawn to the idea of prized recruit Sam Horn, a redshirt freshman, under center at Mizzou.
After the win at Faurot Field in Columbia, Tigers coach Eli Drinkwitz began his postgame press conference by addressing his anger at Cook’s reception.
“I’ll say it. I was angry when we booed our starting quarterback to start the game,” said Drinkwitz. “He went out and played his butt for this university and this team. They have to get behind him. Get behind the young man. Do you want to boo me? Fine. You don’t boo the start that quarterback. It’s bullcrap.”
