The South Carolina Safe Home wind mitigation program was modified to allow for higher grant awards, due to increased costs of construction materials and labor.
The South Carolina Department of Insurance said in a bulletin this week that the program, which helps homeowners strengthen their homes to better withstand hurricane force winds, is now providing $6,000 in matching grants. for some types of retrofits. Non-matching grants, for low-income households, have also been increased, from a $5,000 maximum to $7,500.
