Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes captured his second Super Bowl title this past season, quickly cementing himself among the greatest signal callers in NFL history.
This upcoming season will be Mahomes’ seventh as a professional, but with two Super Bowl rings already in tow, many fans of the game are wondering how much he’ll have by the time it’s all said and done.
Mahomes turns just 28 in September, and should have a lot of elite football left in front of him. But that doesn’t mean he believes he’s one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play the game.
However, like any other fan of the game, Mahomes has his list of the top five quarterbacks of all time.
“Yes, I want to tell you Tom [Brady]’s one,” Mahomes told Ben Felderstein on Complicated. “But when you talk about the legends of the game, Tom, Peyton Manning, obviously Aaron Rodgers, Joe Montana and then you go to Dan Marino or John Elway to round out your top five. But I mean there are some great quarterbacks playing with this guy, I’m just trying to learn from them because even though the game is evolving, there are things in the past that help you become a better quarterback.
When Felderstein asked if there were more Super Bowl titles Mahomes had in mind, his answer was simple.
“As much as possible,” he said. “I mean, it’s very difficult for them to win. Everybody says you want to chase Brady and try to get to eight or whatever. I don’t know if I’ll be playing until I’m 45, so I’ll try. My kids will be out of high school when I play long, so I don’t know, I’ll see you there. But I will play this game until I can play at a high level and try to take care of my body. But I will try to win as much as possible. And I mean, you think of the eight or whatever Tom won, that seems crazy now, so I’ll take it one at a time, but I’ll try to win as much as I can.
The sky is the limit for Mahomes and the Chiefs. If he continues on his current path, he will surely also earn a high spot among the elite quarterbacks in every game of the game.
