Liberty Mutual Insurance Global Risk Solutions (GRS) has appointed Patrick Thielen as Global Head of Cyber.
In the role, he will lead the development and implementation of a cyber strategy that helps brokers and buyers worldwide better manage cyber exposure.
At the same time, he will report to GRS Insurance Solutions President Elizabeth Geary, who leads an operation that builds and delivers solutions for complex emerging global risks, such as cyber.
Prior to joining Liberty Mutual, Thielen served as Senior Vice President, Tech E&O, and led Chubb’s cyber insurance product. He also previously held various strategic and technical positions at Travelers.
“Patrick’s strong cyber leadership and expertise make him the ideal candidate for this critical role. He will be responsible for maximizing the value we add to brokers and buyers through a clear appetite for risk, consistent global approach and dedicated cyber advisory, underwriting and claims teams,” Geary commented.
In addition, GRS also announced the promotion of Jelmer Andela to the newly created role of Head of Cyber Underwriting for Liberty Specialty Markets (LSM), the specialist insurer based in London.
In this role, he will be responsible for leading the implementation of GRS’s global cyber strategy across LSM, establishing a cyber perspective for that operation, as well as being a trusted advisor to the regional Chief Underwriting. Its officers, who remain responsible for management. cyber gains and losses in their regions.
He will report to Thielen and LSM Chief Underwriting Officer Rachel Conran.
Prior to his new role, Andela was portfolio manager and cyber underwriting manager for Europe & Middle East for LSM, and has been with the company since 2017.
“Jelmer has more than two decades of experience in the insurance market, underwriting multiple lines of business, and is an exceptional cyber specialist. That experience will enable him to optimize the profitability of our cyber portfolio, ” added Conran.
