H.W. Kaufman Group names general counsel

Global insurance organization HW Kaufman Group announced the appointment of David R. Janis as general counsel and a member of its leadership team.

In this role, Janis will provide counsel on transactions, contracts, and litigation, while also collaborating with the company’s compliance department to ensure adherence to industry best practices.

In addition, Janis is tasked with deploying best practices for corporate governance, as well as building a framework for strategic risk management and mitigation.

“David brings to Kaufman a sharp mind along with exceptional legal and business acumen that will continue to drive our firm forward,” said Alan Jay Kaufman, chairman, president and CEO. “His experience will be key to supporting our long-term and sustainable success.”

Janis has worked as a practicing attorney and corporate advisor for nearly two decades. He joins Kaufman from Rocket Mortgage, where he served as associate general counsel. He is also an active member of the company’s risk advisory group and risk counsel, which sets the strategy for codes of conduct, ethics, information security and vendor management.

Janis will be based at Kaufman’s corporate headquarters in Farmington Hills, Michigan. He reports to executive vice president Jodie Kaufman Davis.

News of Janis’ appointment comes amid a period of considerable growth for Kaufman. Last year alone, the company welcomed more than 380 new employees and promoted more than 225 existing partners.
