The developers behind The Lord of the Rings: Gollum posted an apology after critics and gamers alike slammed the title for poor gameplay, poor graphics, and general bugginess. In a message posted on Twitter and Steam, Daedalic Entertainment said it apologized for the “unfortunate experience” with the game.
“We acknowledge and deeply regret that the game did not meet the expectations we set for ourselves or for our dedicated community,” the message read. “We really value your feedback and actively listen to your voices, read your comments, and analyze the helpful criticism and suggestions you provide.”
The studio added that it is working on fixes for some bugs and performance issues experienced by players and said it will keep users updated on its progress.
Gollumwhich is set during the events of The engagement ring, an action-adventure game for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X / S, and PC. (It’s set to come to Nintendo Switch later this year.) During the game, you control Gollum and his two personalities as you try to sneak past orcs and escape Mordor. Unfortunately, it didn’t take long for the negative reviews to start flooding in after its release on Thursday.
while Polygon wrote a play that lacked personality, GameSpot notes that it crashed 120 times in 11 hours of playtime, and IGN saying it’s “not fun to play.” The PC version of the game currently has a rating of 41 on Metacritic and a “Mostly Negative” reception on Steam. With this in mind, it’s unclear what the game’s developers can do to actually fix the game, other than fixing any performance issues.
