ESPN Sunday Night Baseball The broadcast faced criticism from fans after an in-game interview with Triston Casas during the The Red Sox battle against Cardinals.
Boston’s first baseman took to the microphone for an in-game interview in ESPN’s broadcast booth when Karl Ravech poses an uncomfortable question.
Casas, whose mother died when she was young, was asked what Mother’s Day meant to her, resulting in an awkward moment on the broadcast.
“We have Alex Cora. I know your mom died when you were young. What does Mother’s Day mean to you and your sister?” Ravech asked.

While Casas remained professional in his response, fans weren’t too happy with Ravech’s question, and they echoed the situation on Twitter.
Triston Houses: "Boston treated me well. Saw a tree today. Love the vibe here."
ESPN Booth: "Sounds good… So, let’s walk through your mother’s untimely death."

EDUARDO PÉREZ: Can you take us through your pre-game routine?
TRISTON CASAS: True. I often walk to the park-.
KARL RAVECH: -So, about your deceased mother.

Did they just ask Triston Casas about his dying mother in the middle of a baseball game?

Asking Triston Casas about his late mother while he was playing on the field was certainly an interesting decision.

It’s been 14 hours and I still can’t get over the thought of ESPN asking Triston Casas about his late mother on Mother’s Day. Even though they asked him if this topic was okay in the pregame meetings, it was bad form and really didn’t need to be brought up. It’s so messed up.

ESPN mics the player mid-game:
Karl Ravech: so it’s mother’s day and your mom is dead. What is that?
Tristan Casas: ….uh yeah that’s not good for me

Clearly, fans weren’t happy with Ravech’s approach during Sunday’s interview, and the ESPN broadcast was trashed on social media afterward.
