The Senate on Thursday night passed a bill to raise the debt ceiling.
The measure was approved by a bipartisan 63-36 vote after passing the House by a wide and bipartisan margin Wednesday night.
Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said the US could run out of money to pay its bills by June 5 if Congress does not act, leaving the Senate scrambling to put a bill on President Biden’s desk.
