Even James Gunn Superman The film is one way, the new co-head of DC Films has been quite open about his plans for the character and what he’s looking for in an actor to play him. Historically, playing Man of Steel is a bit mixed bagand the names are always floated out there (whether true or false), and there he is no problem silenced the rumors and emphasized that nothing had been found more. While that hasn’t changed, it looks like development is continuing to find the man who will spend the next few years playing Super…man.
Per the Hollywood Reporterthe top name being floated around to play Man of Steel in the 2025’s Superman: Legacy be David Corenswet. The 29-year-old was only seen last year pearl, and is currently in production on the TV adaptation of Lady of the Lake. Other names on that list include Euphoria Star Jacob Elordi (who reportedly did not submit himself to the mix), and British actors Tom Brittney (Grantchester) and Andrew Richardson (Call a Spy). But the outlet may not have it completely right. According to Deadline’s Justin Krollanother name floated there The Menu Nicholas Hoult. While THR says Hoult’s name should be considered — WB has apparently been “in love with him” since 2015 Mad Max: Fury Road, and he was once intended for Batman—the outlet claims that he could instead play Superman’s long-time nemesis, Lex Luthor. Interestingly, it appears that he has the same name as Lex.
As for Superman’s love interest Lois Lane, THR reports that Emma Mackey (Death on the Nile), Rachel Brosnahan (Wonderful Mrs. Maisel), Samara Weaving (Scream 6), and Phoebe Dynevor (Bridgerton) for consideration. It’s unclear who might take on the role, though; Brosnahan reportedly had an “amazing” audition, but at age 32, he may not be the 20-something age Gunn says he’s going to be.
Sources who spoke to THR say that some of the actors listed have not yet screen tested, and may be in the mix of potential names. A spec says that WB and Gunn are “closer to a decision.” But this is the first real bit of casting news we have on this particular project, and it will be interesting to see who ends up playing these characters in what will be the next step forward. for DC movies for at least the next decade. .
Superman: Legacy expected to be released in theaters on July 11, 2025.
Update: In response to the news circulating, Gunn stated on Twitter that he has a habit of not talking about the actors to be considered for roles, only those who have already booked a share. (And even then, after an actor clearly talked about it after the fact.) Significantly however, he cryptically teased that a role had been cast for Superman: Legacy, says no “Any of the regular players in the Superman world.” And he punctuated his statement with a mermaid emoji.
Let the speculation continue.
