England’s Harry Hall missed out on a first PGA Tour win as Emiliano Grillo beat Adam Schenk in a play-off to win the Charles Schwab Challenge.
Argentina’s Grillo started the final round four shots behind Hall while America’s Schenk was a stroke back.
As Hall weakened, the 30-year-old looked poised to win but double-bogeyed 18 when he drove into the creek, bringing his ball back to him.
But Grillo regrouped and birdied the second play-off hole to find Schenk.
It was the second PGA Tour victory for Grillo – who finished with a 68 – but his first since 2015.
Hall started the day at the iconic Colonial brightly, carding back-to-back birdies on the first two holes, but four bogeys saw his lead disappear.
The 25-year-old however found himself in a three-way tie at the top with Grillo and Schenk as he teed off on the final hole.
However, as he attempted to claim his first PGA Tour title, he hit his tee shot into the water and made a closing bogey to miss the play-off by one shot.
Hall finished tied for third in Texas with world number one Scottie Scheffler, who shot a three-under 67 after making two birdies and a hole-in-one on the 189-yard eighth.
