Specialty insurer and reinsurer Canopius Group announced the expansion of its US Casualty business with its entry into the domestic US Excess Casualty market in the Canopius US Insurance Company role.
The re/insurer said this move underscores its commitment to expanding its footprint in the US insurance sector and enhancing its casualty capabilities.
As a key part of this expansion, Canopius appointed Jude DiBattista as Head of US Excess Casualty.
DiBattista brings more than three decades of casualty experience in the E&S market segment, along with a strong background in building profitable casualty portfolios. The appointment will help Canopius take advantage of the growth opportunity within the surplus line market and further enhance its brand.
Laurie Banez, Head of Casualty, US & Bermuda, commented: “The E&S Excess Casualty market has become one of the fastest growing markets in the insurance industry and this rapid growth provides an opportunity for Canopius to enter the market and offer a specialized. solution for our customers. Under Jude’s leadership, we will provide underwriting excellence and innovative risk-based solutions for our wholesale distribution partners.”
Canopius’ entry into the US Excess Casualty market will be focused on commercial risks, with a special approach to niche verticals, such as construction, commercial real estate, hospitality, manufacturing, and technology.
DiBattista said: “It’s an honor and a privilege to be part of the Canopius organization, and I’m very excited about the opportunity to build this team and product offering from the ground up. I’m also excited about the company’s commitment to rapidly expanding that growth in excess casualty lines in the surplus market.
“Our vision is centered on providing comprehensive products tailored to different clients, competitive terms and conditions, and niche underwriting expertise that our partners value. The ultimate goal is to enhance our value proposition and make a significant impact within the market.”
