The Canadian Institute of Actuaries (CIA) has elected five new members to its Board.
The company confirmed that Conrad Ferguson, FCIA, has been recognized as President-Elect of the CIA.
The CIA stated that Ferguson will hold this position for 2023-2024, and then continue to serve as President for 2024-2025 followed by the role of Immediate Past President for 2025-2026.
As President-Elect, he is committed to responding to emerging challenges by applying actuarial solutions and aimed at solving issues related to the environment, as well as advances in AI and data analytics .
At the same time, the CIA selected four other directors who would each serve three-year terms.
This includes Sarah-Salimah Bhanji, who is the chief actuary and member of the executive management team at Northbridge, a major Canadian property and casualty insurer.
In addition, Caroline Blouin, an experienced actuary with more than 30 years of experience in the profession across Canada and the US, has also joined the board.
Isabelle Bouchard, joins the board with more than 20 years of experience in group reinsurance, consulting and working in a medical association.
And finally, Tommy Yip, joins the CIA Board in the role reserved for a member who has earned the Fellowship within the past seven years.
The CIA also confirmed that all appointments will be effective from July 1, 2023.
The company stated that the newly elected members will contribute to the Institute’s mission of promoting financial security for Canadians and increasing public awareness of the actuarial profession.
