On the heels of this announcement is the introduction of Coinbase One, the premium tier of the platform, which brings many benefits to the Canadian crypto community, including no transaction fees, better rewards of staking and dedicated customer support. As an introductory offer, Coinbase waives membership fees for the first 30 days.
“As Coinbase’s next Go Deep Market, we are making significant investments to help Canadians access the benefits of cryptocurrency,” said Nana Murugesan, vice president of International and Business Development at Coinbase. He highlighted the country’s growing crypto consciousness and the evolving technology scene, an ideal combination for Coinbase’s efforts:
“Canada is well positioned to become a global leader in the cryptoeconomy thanks to a high level of crypto awareness, a vibrant local technology ecosystem, and progress towards a strong framework of regulation.”
Further cementing its commitment to the Canadian market, Coinbase has brought on board Lucas Matheson as Canadian Country Director. The company is also strengthening its technology presence in the region, establishing a significant technology hub and actively investing in promising local startups, including but not limited to Dapper Labs and Minerva AI:
“Established a tech hub with nearly 200 full-time employees who help build Coinbase products. This makes Canada Coinbase the largest tech hub outside of the U.S. Coinbase is also one of the largest crypto employers in Canada […] Canadian portfolio companies include Dapper Labs, Minerva AI, Axelar, Horizon Blockchain Games, and Zapper.
David Furlong, the chief operating officer of the Peoples Group, exclaimed, noting the limitless potential of this collaboration. “The People Group is pleased to partner with industry leader Coinbase, to make it a money-moving tool for their Canadian customers and expand payment possibilities.”
