AXA XL Insurance has announced the appointment of Adele Smith as head of mid-market generalist as part of its ongoing efforts to expand its targeted mid-market insurance business in the US.
Based in New York, Smith is responsible for developing the underwriting unit that provides multi-line property/casualty insurance for mid-sized generalist businesses in the United States. He will report to Matt Waters, head of the US mid-market at AXA XL.
“In the US, we are taking a targeted approach to launching our mid-market capabilities. With the successful launch of our private equity business on July 1, I am very proud of the team’s progress and the excitement in the market that it has done,” said Waters. “Now, while continuing our focus on target industries, relationships, and quality at the account level, we are excited to bring Adele on board to further expand our capability.
“With her market focus, proven leadership and focus on disciplined growth, along with her deep broker partnerships with our largest trading partners in the Northeast, Adele will help us create this next step as we continue to build our team, start generalist. capabilities and continue to grow our mid-market business,” he said.
Smith joins AXA XL from CNA, where he currently oversaw $500 million in profit and loss for the mid-market business in New York.
Smith is the latest addition to the AXA XL roster. Last month, the company announced the appointment of Renaud Guidee as CEO of its reinsurance division. In May, AXA XL named Vicky Roberts-Mills head of energy transition.
