Apple uses an internal chatbot to help its employees “prototype future features, summarize text and answer questions based on the data it’s trained on,” it said. Bloombergby Mark Gurman on Power On today.
Apple isn’t sure yet what the Apple GPT chatbot project wants to do with the customer-facing segment, but Gurman’s report sheds light on at least the internal use of the chatbot. According to the newsletter, Apple is looking at ways to expand the use of generative AI within its organization, with a possibility of giving the tool to AppleCare support staff to better help customers deal with issues.
Caution is justified. Companies like Apple and Samsung have reportedly ordered their employees not to use chatbots because of the potential for leaking information, and their “hallucinations” that produce false information can be as damaging as a lawyer who used ChatGPT to create a brief full of completely fabricated cases.
