For those unfamiliar with the gag, the narrative spoofs Luck’s beard and short hair, presumably to resemble someone living in the 19th century. A black-and-white image was created with Luck in a Civil War uniform and the character of “Capt. Andrew Luck” writing letters home, mostly to his mother.

Luck is clearly enjoying his retirement four years after walking away from what looked like a Hall of Fame NFL career. He returned to football to some extent, coaching as an assistant at Palo Alto High School. The appearance of luck in TNF shows that he has a sense of humor, ready in public an internet gag that many people enjoy.
Dear mother –
My beard is trimmed – but not shaved. Thus, I will continue my quiet days in my Appalachian cabin, reading the birds. A basket of spiced beaver legs and fresh squirrel oil is on the way. It’s great to write again. I love you.
